In FY22, the Office of Guardianship created a Task Force to evaluate how Supported Decision-Making could be most effectively implemented in New Mexico. The Task Force was led by Carrisa Tashiro, Esq., an experienced disability rights attorney who has worked for both Disability Rights New Mexico and Disability Rights Nevada. As part of her work in Nevada, Ms. Tashiro helped implement a supported decision-making program in that state. The New Mexico Task Force included participants from Disability Rights New Mexico; professional guardians (both those who contract with OOG and those who do not); self-advocates (both those with and without guardians); parents and siblings of individuals with disabilities; attorneys; and staff from agencies in the disability rights and services fields.
